Since Tibet is a landlocked region like the neighbouring Nepal, you have choose either the land route or the air route for getting to Tibet.
By Air:
The easiest way to arrive in Lhasa is by air. There are flights to Lhasa from various Chinese cities & from Kathmandu in Nepal.
By Road:
Five highways link Tibet to outer world – four from China, and one from Nepal. However, only two routes - the Nepal route and the route via China’s Qinghai province are allowed for the foreigners. The route from Nepal is the most popular among the foreigners for Nepal’s relative proximity and the panoramic view of the Mt. Everest.
There are other routers from trek routes from various parts of Nepal traditionally used by the local traders & people living on the Sino-Nepal border area, but these routes are generally prohibited by the China Government for the use of foreigners.
China has also linked Beijing with Lhasa with the railroad through the world’s highest terrain. |
