Mountaineering |

|
Despite Nepal was open to the outer world since 1950s, China allowed mountaineering in the Tibet side only since the 1970s. Besides that owing to the political sensitivity of the region, China has been frequently restricting the area for outsiders – recently being the ban for the Beijing Olympics. The Tibet Mountaineering Association which was established in 1982 allows 22 peaks for expedition from Tibetan Side.
There are three major peaks in Tibet that the mountaineers consider worth trying because of their height over 8,0000 meters are:
- Everest North
- Cho Oyu
- Sishapangma
